Imagine in front of you lies an A4 piece of paper. In tiny faint courier print, on the bottom right hand corner lies the number 3. This is where you are. The third page into a five page time machine pamphlet. Why? Because organisation and procrastination counteract each other. Gift this gift, with forgiveness.

Following an unexpected and generous nomination, Lakeisha Lynch-Stevens became one of a few young people selected to join an initiative by the BBC called Charlie’s Army. Forming part of the London collective, the group developed skills at the BBC and hands on experience that aired live on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 1Xtra and the BBC Live Red Button

British DJ, Producer, Actor and TV Presenter Charlie Sloth also ran a small competition. The winning production package, scripted by Lakeisha and pieced together by fellow creatives in the team, was announced the winner.

In a takeover of Battersea Arts Centre, London saw the critically acclaimed one on one on one festival, London Stories. Lakeisha, amongst a variety of interesting individuals and performers from contrasting walks of life, was cast in this epic show of storytelling and intimacy.

Also featuring at Battersea Arts Centre, was an audio tour version of The Good Neighbour running for a second year since its previous success. Sound designed by Lewis Gibson, alongside words collected by Uninvited Guests, with the voices of Lakeisha and the rest of the cast narrating, made up the guides in people’s earphones.
Just like Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, Podcasts and whatever else people will stream via in the future.

Time Machine Catch Up: First Light Quarter (2013)

In Film, Information, Interview, itv, Performance, Radio, Theatre, Writing on August 28, 2015 at 9:32 pm

Chapter One of the Time Machine Series; a journey back through moments to be celebrated. Pre-First Light Quarter was spent co-hosting Amateur Shorts’ Screening Showcase together with Sofia Stephanou. If you’re an actor, writer, director, cinematographer, MUA, boom operator or filmmaker of any sort – professional or aspiring – follow and contact @Katrina_SJ via Twitter to see what opportunities she may have in store. Curated by Katrina Smith-Jackson, Amateur Shorts’ Screening Showcase, allowed filmmakers, actors and writers to get together over the course of 6 months with 6 healthy genres, with the access and the platforms to create 6 brave films. Fellow actors Lakeisha Lynch-Stevens and Sofia Stephanou provided banter-filled presentation to a room full of popcorn, smiles and eyes facing a generously sized screen.

The first light of 2013 was the First Light Award (also known as the Mini Oscars) for Best Animation for the short film High Above the Sky. After heading up to the stage with a few of the fellow young filmmakers, to accept the award on behalf of Helena Thompson (writer/Artistic Director of SPID) and SPID, Lakeisha (voiceovers, animation/greenscreen assistance) then made her way through interviews, then eventually to ITV to be interviewed on the victory and speak more on the great opportunities First Light and SPID offer for young people breaking their way into the film industry. The Best Animation award, was presented by Will Poulter (The Maze Runner, We’re the Millers) and Nik Powell (NFTS Director).

In another SPID produced production, Lakeisha was cast in the immersive site-specific west London tour on bio-tech iAM (trailer above). After exciting reviews the show then took to primary schools, a PRU, a college and more venues, changing and developing throughout.

In May of 2013 Lakeisha was cast in episodes 1, 2, 4 and 5 as Janine in a radio play called Sacrifice aired on Reprezent Radio 107.3FM and penned episode 2 herself.

The Summer of 2013 was heated up in the secret SPID produced corporate event Landgrab at the Victoria Plaza Hotel. Lakeisha was cast alongside two other actors to ‘train’ a group of 70 and to sway a room of over 200 clients to ‘buy land’.

This is Chapter One of Five of some of the missed pieces of the past, send a shout out or follow @LLynchStevens to be a part of the future.

Stay tuned for the rest of the Time Machine Series.
